Hello from home! We really enjoyed our time in California...but we're also glad to be home. There's something to be said for the "routine" of home! :-)
Our flights were great! On time for the most part. Last night we were delayed however leaving Atlanta for about an hour and 45 minutes due to storms so we got home at 2 am after leaving CA at noon. But as our pilot on our flight from Atlanta said...they always strive to be on time most of the time...but safety is first all of the time! I totally agree...and didn't mind sitting on the tarmac for that time. The wind was so strong the plane was rocking.
Makayla is however spoiled for the next time she flies...we were able to use the last of our frequent flier miles for 1st class tickets. She loved getting drinks and snacks before takeoff...watching all the movies (for free), "hot" food (free), she now thinks that's "normal"...on the way home from Atlanta she finally could not stay awake and she said...wake me when they bring us the goodies! :-) I didn't wake her but did get her some of the cinnamon cookies she found on the way to CA that she loved! The food was surprisingly good as well! Tim however thinks it's funny that you are screened through security...then they give you glass plates, glasses to drink from and...yes...a fork, spoon and a KNIFE! And not plastic! :-) I think any of that could be more harmful that my clippers! :-)
We also had the opportunity to go to Saddleback Church Sunday! That was a great experience. 1st...Rick Warren was not there this week or next...they guy preaching did a great job...I was also reminded it's not about the "person"! The worship was great! The 2nd thing I noticed that I was surprised about was how small the "sanctuary" was. I expected it to be on the line of Southeast...but it was not even close. They did however have several tents around the campus off the parking lots that had live feeds in them. Plus they have several satellite locations as well. It really is a "laid back" atmosphere where it is not a "churchy" feel that would turn some people off to coming. They had a separate building for the kids...we didn't take Makayla there however...they had what looked like a cool coffee house...we didn't go in. You'll notice in a couple pictures I took how small it looks. It's not even half the size of Southeasts previous building. But, it's not about the building...even though the entire campus was awesome...it's not about the "outsides". They have an awesome ministry there and I'm glad we were able to visit it there! (Oh and just a side note...Rick Warren's wife is the main speaker for the Global Mission Health Conference this year the 2nd weekend in November! Check out Southeast's website for details)
Tim got himself a GPS before we left...and as he said "this has been invaluable"! It was actually really helpful...you just put in where you're going and it calculates your route! It did however not keep us from getting "lost" one evening! We finally got frustrated...or more accurately...I got frustrated and said the heck with it and put in our hotel and it got us "home"! But as Tim says...I've "never" been lost...I've been "perplexed" on several occasions! :-) UH...Mr. Eagle Scout! You've had us LOST on many occasions! But the GPS was cool!
All in all our time in California was great! Tim has his CPE's done for the year, Makayla and I were able to go along and we had fun! And the weather is amazing in San Diego and along the coastal communities!
I have also added some pics of Chloe...she really changed in a week! Makayla missed her baby sister too! Chloe is now turning over! Jamie goes back to work Monday (28th)! She has an interview tomorrow (23rd) for a new position at work! Pray she gets it! She doesn't know if it's more money but it's a "step up". :-)
